On May 25th 2015, at the meeting, Dr Helen Marquard, Executive Director – SEED Initiative , welcomed all the guest and spoke about the small, micro and medium sized enterprise (SMME) sector that generates substantial employment and economic output on a global basis.
A plenary panel discussion on creating green jobs: the impact of social and environmental start-ups was conducted for the next hour. Dr Helen Marquard introduced the five speakers and requested the crowd to pose questions to either one of the speakers (Q&A session).
Once the Plenary panel discussion was done, Helen introduced and called upon Mr Youbo Li, General Manager – Hisense Manufacturing South Africa. Mr Li elaborated on how Hisense has grown as a Global organization and how the launch of the Atlantis factory in Cape Town has not only contributed to the employment of local people but also, offset the event’s carbon footprint and also mentioned the success of Hisense on South African soil.
